DESCRIPTION

The aim of the group is to research and develop methods for the realistic simulation of physical phenomena through the mathematical modelling of these phenomena and its solution by using analytical, numerical and symbolic methods. Also, the Applied Mechanics group promotes the research and learning of the basic theories of the Applied Mechanics at undergraduate and postgraduate level.

Simulador analiza qué pasaría en el valle de Aburrá con un sismo

Municipios con más riesgo sísmico son Caldas y Medellín. Con simulador pretenden tener cálculos.

Un grupo de investigación de la Universidad Eafit creó un simulador de propagación de ondas en segunda y tercera dimensión para comprender cómo afectaría un sismo al valle de Aburrá.

Este es el primer simulador desarrollado en el país que integra información de la fuente sísmica: lugar dónde exactamente se produce el evento y las trayectorias de las ondas.

Applied Mechanics Group

The Applied Mechanics Group (Grupo de Mecánica Aplicada) in a joint effort with the Quake Group at Carnegie Mellon University created a computational seismic model for the Aburrá Valey Region. The model considers the first version of the internal S-wave velocity gradient up to 25km deep, surficial topography, and four potential seismic source scenarios near the city of Medellín. This model which is the first of its kind in Colombia is used to study the incidence of local topography on the earthquake ground motions in and around the city of Medellín.
