An explicit large scale FEM solver for wave scattering in realistic 2D scenarios

The state of the art in numerical techniques and the currently available computer power, have reaches a level of development, where it is now possible to create seismic models under highly realistic conditions. Currently, our group is working in the creation of the first realistic, regional seismic wave propagation problem in Colombia. The goal is to study the response of the Valle de Aburra under a rupture of one of the branches of the Cauca-Romeral fault system that goes through Medellin. The project is conducted in collaboration with Carnegie Mellon Univesity.
